Anne... CV: Interests

Artistic endeavours

I've held various theatrical production positions as a student: stage manager I ran a tight ship! , chief electrician and lighting board operator, props crew chief, costume designer, dresser, seamstress, and set crew member. Recently I've been getting back in touch with my "backstage" roots by volunteering as an occasional crew member, artistic consultant, and assistant producer for a local heavy metal rock band.

Over the past decades I've been a singer (choir, small group, and solo) and a mistress of ceremonies, I've taken ballet lessons, jazz dance classes, piano lessons, and music workshops, and I even started to learn to play the rock drumset Sadly I'm not very good... a few years ago!

I was born holding a pencil, and have tried to keep my hand in a little bit over the years, for example by taking several Japanese papermaking workshops and a variety of other visual art workshops. I enjoy building small websites, such as for a CSA farm I belonged to a few years ago, and for my current hockey team. My latest artistic activity is learning tie-dye and related fabric colouring arts.

Sports and exercise

As a child I was not athletic, though I enjoyed swimming and soccer. In the past five years or so, I've ramped up my level of physical activity considerably, and have been surprised to find myself taking to ice hockey, The jury is out as to whether I'm a worse drummer or hockey player... of all things! For the daily "keep-in-shape" grind, I've found the video game Dance Dance Revolution to be fun and effective.

Home, garden, and environment

In the past few years, home ownership has given me the opportunity to redecorate and repair the house, plan and plant gardens, and befriend squirrels. I've been reading about permaculture and sustainable energy and water use, and have been trying to figure out ways to apply these concepts on a cold-climate small suburban lot.

Other

In the past I've been a student election scrutineer, and a member or officer of various types of committees and similar bodies ranging from social clubs to the Bishop's University Senate. I've read more books than I'll ever remember, and on the odd occasion I'm even a poet.

Whether any of this is relevant is debatable, but apparently potential employers like to know this stuff. Plus, I get to find out who has really read my whole CV. :-)
